An exhibition of canvases, entitled “The Grates” by a Toulouse-based abstractionist Xavier Gal, has been opened in Dnipropetrovsk.
The author accounts for such a name of his collection in a rather trivial manner – when in Toulouse, he dwells in quite a poor neighborhood, where street fights are commonplace with the young people. That is why he and his neighbors are used to have their windows grated. Thus, grates are the first thing one sees upon awakening. When a man goes down to the kitchen to have a cup of tea, he looks down the grated window. The life in such retrospective is more like the life in a cage, and this feeling manifested itself on the canvas. The author has been quite instinctively attaching sticky tape to the canvas for three years now – and the grated canvas is all there.
Xavier Gal is a young artist, whose canvases have been exhibited in Ukraine for several times now. He also plays a guitar in a Toulouse-based band of “Pennfleux”. The next spring is not far off, so there is some contemplation to be undertaken by organizers of the “French Spring in Ukraine 2007”. Might Xavier Gal come to Ukraine in the year 2008 with his concert program?
The exhibition is open for all citizen of Dnipropetrovsk till April 30 in the Dnipropetrovsk Museum of Arts.
“UkrSibbank” is also privileged to invite you to visit other events of the “French Spring in Ukraine 2007” festival.
